The Mount Haven is a West Cornwall Hotel located in the picturesque village of Marazion, Penzance’s smaller neighbour. As well as offering lots of shops and galleries to browse around, it’s also the staging post to explore all that West Cornwall has to offer. Marazion is a staging post to explore St Michael’s Mount, immerse yourself in its three thousand years of history.
Even getting to the Mount is an adventure. During high tide, it’s completely cut off by the sea and can only be reached by boat or amphibious ferry. But, at low tide, the waters recede and it’s fun to walk across via an ancient cobbled path where the fishes swim by.
If you wish to explore the mainland, there are numerous National Trust walks along the famous South West Coast Path and many isolated beaches to be discovered. The nearby villages of Perranuthnoe and Prussia Cove are not only beautiful but the walks there are spectacular and not beyond even the faint-hearted. Just bring the right shoes. The Minack Theatre, built into the cliffs at Porthcurno, is the ninth wonder of the world and worth visiting even if there are no performances to watch. Porthcurno is, of course, a great place to spot the seals and basking sharks. The beach is heavenly and the sea a colour we haven’t seen outside Sardinia .
The Isles of Scilly is a boat ride away and a day trip or a longer stay are worth thinking about whilst you’re down here. If you’re going from here for a couple of days, we’ll even let you leave your car in our car park (for a little donation to our orphanage!).
